Employees expect mobile access

March 3, 2011 In the webinar on Mobile solutions that I hosted this week, I covered not only the explosive growth of mobile, but also the need, preference, and even demand! for mobile solutions by employees. This includes a preference for the tools that optimize their productivity – including mobile access and use of their own tools, such as their own devices. Dan Ortega from Sybase has a great post titled Mobile Workers and an IT Role Reversal. His post further emphasizes the points I discussed this week. You'll be working on a small team that develops applications for large businesses using some of the latest technology. You will be involved in all aspects of solution development, including analysis, design, development, testing, documentation, and support. User-Defined List (Hgbst) utility

February 12, 2011 A common source of bad or corrupt data in an Amdocs/Clarify system is in the area of User-Defined lists. It’s not uncommon to find issues such as: orphaned elements duplicate elements a level referencing a non-existing element a level referencing a non-existing parent level lists that don’t have a root level elements linked to multiple levels or multiple lists lists with a loop in the element/show hierarchy etc. Many of these issues can be identified using the Data Verifier utility that is included as part of the Dovetail SDK. However, when the data is really bad, other tools may be useful. How does data get this way? Using UltraEdit’s function list with Dovetail Schema files

January 31, 2011 A question recently came up on how to use UltraEdit to show the list of all of the objects in a Dovetail SchemaEditor Data Dictionary file. A Data Dictionary file is a complete definition of a schema. As I’ve mentioned in the past, I rarely use complete schema files, preferring instead to work with simpler schemascript files. Although I often use UltraEdit for editing text files, I rarely use UltraEdit for editing XML files. I prefer Visual Studio, with its integrated support for XSD, which gives me intellisense and syntax checking. Regardless, I dove into UltraEdit configuration, and with a bit of help from Sam Tyson, I figured out how to make this work.
